Self-Guided Walking Tour Through Historic Bar Harbor

The Bar Harbor Museum in the Streets is a heritage discovery trail that was installed throughout downtown Bar Harbor in 2013.
Working closely with the Bar Harbor Historical Society, the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Bar Harbor helped to design this free walking tour – to foster a sense of historical identity, educate, encourage preservation of local historic sites and promote knowledge of stories, events and traditions. The 29 historical panels, written in English and French, are rich with archival imagery and local lore about the illustrious “Rusticators” and their dream “cottages.”
The panels that make up Museum in the Streets invites locals and tourists alike to discover Bar Harbor’s unique story at their own pace, over the course of an afternoon or several return visits.
