Supporting a Life-Long Love of Literacy

The Southwest Harbor Public Library was built in 1895, although its history goes back to 1884, the year Mrs. Annie Sawyer Downs gathered some discarded books from the summer hotels and placed them on a shelf in a corner of Dr. R. J. Lemont’s drug store, which was located on Clark Point Road.
Southwest Harbor Public Library inspires and supports the enjoyment of life-long learning, the love of literacy, and the exploration of new ideas, welcoming everyone through its doors. Beyond their collection, library services include:
  • They have desktop computers for public use. We also have laptops that may be used, on the library premises only, in exchange for a patron’s valid ID.
  • The library offers free wireless “Wi-Fi” access to the Internet for laptops, and mobile devices.
  • You may print black and white documents from the desktop computer stations by sending your document to print in the usual way and picking the printed copy up at the Circulation Desk.
